If Nicki and I had a mission statement, it would include the word “empower.” We have always looked for ways to awaken and strengthen the wisdom and inspiration that lies within all of us. Over the years, we’ve met and worked with people whose abilities to connect to and express these two qualities covers a wide range. At one end of the spectrum a person may have buried them so deep they are unaware of their very existence, and at the other end, wisdom and inspiration blaze brightly, and the person is looking for ways to focus and intensify them.
The members of the ancient Egyptian Pantheon represent the various archetypal aspects of the human psyche. Thoth, a principle of many desirable attributes, primarily represents wisdom. I have a working relationship with Thoth and have come to believe that gifts such as inspired epiphanies, come from within, and that Thoth represents a path with which one circumnavigates the calculating, thus limiting, portion of the brain that serves us so well in matters of the day-to-day. Today, however, in these times of economic peril and uncertainty, we need to move beyond the ordinary as we search for new solutions—beyond the range of our rational, calculating mind. I would like to invite you to put aside your concerns for a moment and explore the realms within: get out of the way, step aside, and allow something new and inspired to bubble to the surface from the field of intelligence that permeates our being.
For many of us, the old ways we depended upon for financial security are on hold, depressed, dissolved, or broken. At the same time, we are surrounded by potential, which could manifest as a new project or job, a new business, or an expression of art. Perhaps the possibility will be born of inspiration not yet imagined… New technologies are begging for applications, and there are words to be written and new ways to convey them… These are very exciting times. Perhaps if one were to get a little Thothful, these opportunities would show themselves.
Many of you, through books like Alchemical Healing (Nicki Scully, Bear & Co.), classes or lectures, have a working relationship with Thoth. Here’s a way that works for me. Bon voyage…
Go to an existing space, an altar or a special tree for instance, or create one while holding your intent in your mind. Take some time to calm and center yourself, and then close your eyes, breathe deeply, clear your mind, and (in your mind’s eye) look for Thoth. I often see him in the act of doing something, and I look for details in the image. The more details I notice, the more details are offered. As I go deeper into the image, the snapshot becomes a movie and the hidden meanings become clear. Or not. Sometimes I have to ponder on it for a while, maybe for some days. Or I might have to revisit the image to get more information. Or sometimes, and this gives me a thrill when it happens, the message remains elusive until an unforeseen event happens in my life, it all suddenly makes sense, and I’m better prepared to deal with the situation.
However it works for you, go back often and let the relationship with Thoth develop and mature. Keep it alive and learn how to relinquish control of your imagination and allow new ideas to come in.
Example: Once I saw Thoth standing on the deck of a grand old sailing ship dressed like a captain. Simultaneously, another image of him in a canoe wearing a loin cloth flickered in and out superceding the first image. Then I noticed how rigid and stoic he was in one, and how alive and excited he was in the other. There were no sails in the limp rigging and the seas were calm, versus, there was exhilaration as he drove his canoe through the thundering seas. This image was given in response to a question we had about business and scheduling. I won’t bore you with the details, but the ride has been wonderful.
I hope you will send me stories about accessing your Higher Self, and the new and exciting results.
With love and respect,
Mark Hallert
